WHY
Forestry is the new saviour. It is to take us from a fossil economy to a more bio-based economy, it is an area for climate gas emissions mitigation measures, a habitat, a place to be zen, a place to make money, an air filter and a water purificator. Many problems, all to be partially solved by the forest.
To add on to this the Halden river basin sub district is pointing to the forest for climate adaptation measures, to start rebuilding and restoring the hydrological circle. In a country with 2,8% arable land, the limitations to use agricultural land for these measures is restricted. The agriculture needs forested areas to retain more and reduce the speed of water in the catchments. Can this be done in a growing need for a bioeconomy based on all that trees can contribute to?
WHEN
Early registrations to participate can be made here.
23rd of April – 09.30 to 16.30 – with registration and coffee open from 09.00

The event takes place at Oslo Region European Office in Nordic House – Rue du Luxembourg 3/5, 1000 Brussels

WHO
Open call to present your region!
The Halden river basin sub district wants to call together regions in Europe and look closer into this and start building a consortium for future research and development project.
There is an open call for regions, networks and projects to join the first event for this consortium. Are you interested to present one or more cases from your region, please fill out this form withing 28th of February.
WHAT
Programme outline - Final Programme will be sent
09.00 – Coffee and registration
09.30 – Welcome and present idea
Part One – Knowledge baseline and status
In the first segment of the programme before lunch we will set the baseline and present the status on both European forests and water. Experts on both topics will be presenting from their own fields, and the partners will attempt to bring focus on the intersection between the two. There will be a sit-down with all experts for an open dialogue on the intersection and future for forests and water in Europe.
Part Two – European goals and aims
After a short break we will invite EUs partnership; Forests and forestry for a sustainable future to introduce how the future of forestry will look like for water specifically. We will also invite ERRIN to then bring the subject to the regions, and how the regional contribution is expected in bioeconomy and water resilience.
12.00 Lunch
Part three – The regional solutions
For the last half we want to open the floor for different regions in Europe to present how they have started with the implementation of the current knowledge on climate adaptation, flood mitigation, drought with the goal of both having active forestry, driving the shift of bioeconomy while improving water quality and quantity.

Both presenting and participating regions will then be given the chance to work together to form consortiums and network for finding common barriers to unlock, solutions to implement or policy to develop, possibly in future projects together.
By 16.30 we will have had some finishing remarks and closing
